GTA IV - Grand Theft Auto 4 Trailer is Here

GTA IV, The Grand Theft Auto 4 Trailer is here for Hardcore Gamers
Watch the trailer, tell your friends because the Grand Theft Auto IV Trailer is here and we have it up above in the hardcore gamer video player.

We have two thoughts on the trailer. New York? I'm excited and amazed that the folks at Rockstar have decided to drop the fake city trend and go one step further by modeling New York, especially when a ton of people were convinced that GTA IV would be set in Japan. The second is going with Russians as the main protagonist. Could this be genius or insanity? Breaking new ground is always a good thing and I for one cannot wait to play as a Russian.

One last question; Does the trailer give away a time period? I know that the Twin Towers aren't there but is that because we are looking at Post 9-11 or is it because we are looking at Pre-World Trade Center, circa 1970-ish?

It's Official! The Xbox 360 Elite - 120G, HDMI, Black, $479 on 4/29

Xbox 360 elite xbox 360E announcement
The Xbox 360 just got a new, bigger and better brother; the Xbox 360 Elite or the 360E as everyone is calling it now. We are extremely excited for this announcement, not just as hardcore gamers but as audio/video-philes.

Here are the details, straight from Microsoft:

Microsoft Unveils Xbox 360 Elite
Xbox 360™ Elite is the premier Xbox 360 console package that includes a massive 120GB hard drive, a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) port, a high-definition cable, and a premium black finish. The Xbox 360 Elite also includes a black wireless controller and black Xbox Live® headset.

Xbox 360 Elite Product Shot, Black and Sexy

Sure the black is sexy as hell, but the 120G and HDMI support is worth the price alone. Too many fanboys out there are touting this as a bad move and as "an abandonment of early adopters", yet these are the same people who sit on the bus everyday, playing their DS Lite with a 30% brighter screen. How quick we are as a community to jump down Microsoft's throat for anything that we don't initially agree with and yet how soon we forget that this announcement is standard practice for the console industry.

New Alien Syndrome Screenshots for PSP and Wii
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 3/27/2007 4:36 AM
Alien Syndrome Screenshots for the hardcore gamer
Keeping up with the SEGA "Revival" theme, we have fresh screenshots from their upcoming third-person title: Alien Syndrome. As you may remember we posted about Alien Syndrome originally, way back in December, but now we have a ton of screenshots, a wallpaper and a new gameplay video.

For those hardcore gamers out there that still remember the original on the SEGA Master System, we applaud you. Alien Syndrome on the SMS was basically Gauntlet with Aliens; blantant 20 Centrury Fox, Ripley-esque Aliens. Which is ironic, considering that SEGA has now partnered with Fox for a revival of the Alien franchise as a video game property.

After Burner: Black Falcon Screens and Trailer
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 3/23/2007 8:56 AM
After Burner Black Falcon Via the Hardcore Gamer
SEGA is currently pulling a "Midway" by reviving some of its older, maybe lesser-known properties and updating them for an entirely new generation of hardcore gamers. After Burner: Black Falcon is the first of these "revival titles."

While After Burner is stuck on the PSP (sadly), we are glad to see it making some sort of a return, none the less. We can't help but think about a wasted opportunity to return After Burner to its previous stature by skipping the obvious choices of the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3. Take a look at these PSP screenshots adn the new trailer up above and think how much more amazing they could've been on system whose only competition is Ace Combat 4 and Over-G Fighters. Maybe if this sells well we'll see a more triumphant return of this forgotten franchise. Just seeing the F-14 and the logo make me hungry for Hills' burned hotdogs, nachos, crunchy day-old pretzels and an ICEE.

Connect360 is the Killer App for the Xbox 360 and it's on a Mac
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 3/22/2007 7:28 AM
Connect360 is the Killer App for the Xbox 360
Imagine our suprise when we found that the killer application for the Xbox 360 is actually comes from a Mac. That killer app is called "Connect360."

Have you ever wanted to play a song from your iTunes library on your Xbox 360 without dragging it over to a USB drive or rip it from a burned CD? Of course Window Media Center has always been an option, but like most people we were happy with XP Pro and didn't want to reformat our drives and lose XP Pro just to install Windows Media Center Edition so that we could listen to our custom Xbox 360 playlists on our Xbox 360.

Nullriver comes to the rescue with the brilliant application, Connect360. Like most things with a Mac, it couldn't be more simple. Just download the demo, (limited to 100 songs, the full version streams everything for only $20), and install the .dmg file. That's it. No headaches, nothing. Our installation was easy as pie. Once installed all we had to do was boot up the Xbox 360, slide over to the media blade, click music, then computers and there it was; our entire iTunes library streaming to our Xbox 360 for only $20. That simple, that quick. No new OS, no settings to muck with, just set up and go. Within 3 minutes, we were playing TMNT the Arcade Game with our Hardcore Gamer mix. The best part is that on top of all the quick and easy setup, your iTunes library actually updates all of your play counts from your Xbox 360 instantly. The same works in reverse when updating and creating new custom playlists.

Of course your experience may differ since our entire library has no DRM and is entirely MP3, not MP4. Which makes a huge difference since the Xbox 360 only su ...

Rumor The PS3 Loses Another Exclusive: Devil May Cry 4
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 3/20/2007 8:22 AM
PS3Fanboy.com is reporting that Capcom is about to make the announcement that Devil May Cry is no longer an exclusive will be rolling out to PC(?) and Xbox 360. While, (if true), this is another huge blow to Sony and another big "Win" for Microsoft. We have said this before, right here on the homepage; There is no way a publisher that spent tens of millions on developing a game will release it solely on a console that has only a few million installed customers when they can look toward the Xbox 360's 10 million plus users. Can we expect announcements from Namco and Konami soon as well? Imagine the ramifications if Sony lost Tekken and Metal Gear...

But for now, file this under rumor control and take this with a grain of salt because right now everyone is citing ps3fanboy.com which has cites zero sources. But, the fact the entire video game blog-sphere is talking about it means we need to address it.

Update: Here is the Japanese Press Release stating that Devil May Cry 4 is no longer an exclusive.

PSP Has NOT Outsold the DS in the First 24 Months
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 3/16/2007 3:27 PM
There is currently a digg headline floating around, that I'm sure we'll see on the rest of the sites over the weekend. Here is the title and description.

"PSP sells better in first 24 months than PS1, DS, Xbox, more"
Think PSP is a failure? Think again. Looking at the first 24 months of US sales of various consoles reveals that PSP has actually outpaced the original PS1, both versions of Nintendo DS, the original Xbox, Gamecube, and more. Charts included.

The digg headline is WAY off and completely misleading.

As you can see the DS has more than doubled the PSP's software sales and almost doubled their hardware sales.

So tell me again, how does the PSP outsell the DS for the first 24 months when it has less than half as many units in the same timespan? The article doesn't even come close to checking it's facts. In fa ...
