2K Sports Names Albert Pujols Cover Athlete for The BIGS
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 5/3/2007 12:13 PM
Albert Pujols has been named as the cover athlete for 2KSports new Baseball title "The Bigs." Generally we haven't covered sports titles here at the hardcore gamer, but lately we can't seem to stop playing them. Hopefully "The Bigs" will be another successful franchise for 2K, because we just can't seem to pull ourselves away from these more arcade-focused sports titles that concentrate on the feeling of the game rather than the mechanics of the game, like 2K's The Bigs and EA's NBA Homecourt, and Fight Night. Check out the press release after the jump.

GameTap Announces Day & Date Subscription and Digital Retail Programs
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 5/2/2007 6:09 AM
GameTap continues to impress us with their willingness as a company to listen to their base. Many gamers don't want to pay for a subscription just to play a quick round of Bubble Bobble on their lunch hour and with GameTap offering this ad-supported gaming those same gamers won't have to pay a dime, they'll just have to stare ads for Axe body spray and Scion TCs.

Fresh and new gaming titles has been an issue with GameTap because by and large most of their immense library is filled with back-catalog. However as of Tomb Raider Anniversary all of that is going to change. Much like the OnDemand and Pay-Per-View options available to digital cable and Xbox Live customers, GameTap will soon have some of the biggest new releases available for download on their service the same day that is released in stores. For people who find themselves buying new releases for $50, only to trade them in at Gamestop for $10, this could change their lives.

Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare Trailer
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 4/30/2007 8:30 AM
We decided to wait until Monday instead of gouging our eyes out watching the NFL Draft this weekend waiting for the premiere of the new Call of Duty 4 Trailer. It looks great but is it too little too late?

Of course we are glad they decided not to go with another WWII title, but frankly what was left to tell in that genre? Sure CoD4 has beautiful graphics and seems to tell a good story using Call of Duty's classic in-game scripted events, but we can't help feeling like we've been here before, especially with GRAW 1 & 2, Operation FlashPoint and Battlefield Modern Combat all setting the bar high. Either way, we are holding off judgement until we actually play it, because the CoD franchise has always been hit or miss for us. When it hits, it hits big; but when it misses, boy does it miss. (Call of Duty 3 and Big Red One, we are looking at you.)

2K Sports Unveils Legendary Roster for All-Pro Football 2K8
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 4/27/2007 8:52 AM
Still wondering how 2KSports was going to circumvent EA's monopoly on the NFL License? Wonder no more. Today 2K announced that they will be taking a trip in the way-back machine and bringing back some of the NFL heroes of yesteryear, from Elway to Sanders and everything in between. 2K rarely lets us down and College Hoops 2K6 was an eye-opening game that made me really start to enjoy sports games again and I can't imagine them letting us down again after their fan-favorite track record. Sam & Max Season One Finale Hits Gametap
The Hardcore Gamer Video Game News By host on 4/27/2007 8:47 AM
As we have said before, we love all-things Sam & Max here at the hardcore gamer. How could you not? Sam & Max was so far ahead of its' time not just in gameplay but in character design, story telling, and humor. The original is a classic, the follow-up comics are classics and Gametap's Season One is sure to follow suit if only more of you would actually play it, rather than complain about LucasArts letting them go.
