Hate. People throw around the word “hate” far too often. Hell, I do it myself. But when it comes to video games, I tend to use it liberally. For example, I HATE Halo 3. I also HATE the way the Sixaxis feels in your hands. In fact, this may be the birth of a “Things we hate column.” But, I digress...
I hated Rainbow Six Vegas 2. You read my first impression, during the week and this weekend it went from bad to worse. We generally are a spoiler-free site so all I will say is that the original game was a thing of beauty, a master-class in user experience and narrative. The end of this game is ing stupid. There is no nice way to put it, sorry. I was waiting the Rambo III logo to pop up at one point. They took a franchise that needed a reboot and brought it to the masses, but their time in the sun was short because this piece of trash is the afterbirth of some odd McG/Michael Bay lovechild.
Next time, give us what we want. Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Not Rainbow Six Vegas 1.5.
One last thing: I can't shake the feeling that given the timeline, the sub-par graphics, and the framerate issues. (Penthouse... Jesus, did you not playtest this?) That the decision was made to forgo the better-looking, less-buggy Xbox 360 engine in favor of a cross-platform PS3 engine that would need less-resources and money to sell more copies.
But, after all this, I will still play the hell out of the multiplayer. The rainbow community is easily the best of all, generally lacking in griefers and n00bs while excelling in patience and mentorship. Sadly, I think this may be the root of all evil for Ubi. They know that us hardcore rainbow gamers will by this sad excuse for a sequel no matter what, just to play one more board and defuse one more bomb.
