Tolkien actually did write about the frozen lands, although it was only in passing. But those that are fans of Tolkien know that the shear amount of material he created for his fantastic realm is overwhelming, with the vast majority of it not actually taking place in the brief snapshot in time that was 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings'. This should allow the developers of LOTRO to expand their realm for many years to come.
